CCAM is a parametric based program that allows you to quickly generate G Code that takes full advantage of Legacy’s exclusive 5-Axis turning center.

 

Turning Round

CCAM will generate G Code that treats the 4th axis similar to a lathe continuously turning the blank as a surfacing router bit quickly machines the part round.  If the part is programmed to have a taper then the bed is adjusted using Legacy’s exclusive 5-Axis feature to position the blank on the proper angle to machine the round part using the same cutter using.  This tapering technique is over ten times faster than a traditional 4-Axis CNC and results in a far superior finished surface.  Click on the picture above to watch the video.

 

Turning Tool Profile

This process is used to quickly turn a bead or cove on the turning blank using the profile of a router bit to quickly produce the desired effect.  This process also uses the 5-Axis turning capabilities of Legacy’s turning center if the part has a taper.  Click on the picture above to watch the video.

 

Turning Round Contour

In this process arcs can be combined to turn parts similar to a copy lathe without the use of a template.  Click on the picture above to watch the video.

 

Spiral Rope and Barley Twist

Rope and barley twist spirals are machined using router bit profiles design by Legacy and available through magnate.net.  These two processes will automatically calculate the pitch based on the cutter and number of starts.  While carving a rope twist may take several hours, the same part can be machined in less than 10 minutes resulting in a superior finish.  While it is possible to machine a straight section of the rope or barley twist design using a 4-Axis CNC, only Legacy’s 5-Axis turning center can machine the rope or barley twist on a tapered section.  Click on the picture above to watch the video.

 

Spiral Twist

The spiral twist process can be used to create a wide range of custom spiral designs ranging from spiral flutes to the hollow spiral.  Unlike the rope and barley twist, you control the pitch.  This process can also be used on a tapered design.  Click on the picture above to watch the video.

Quickly program flutes on both straight and tapered round spindles or columns.  Features include straight or radius lead-in options.  Click on the picture above to watch the video.

Now you can add mortises on either round or square sections of the turning blank.

This new process allows you to machine a square section of the turning blank.  Options include machining straight or tapered sections on 1, 2, 3 or all 4 sides.
